I know most eaters are so enchanted by Thai food or Korean that the seemingly plain Chinese restaurants have received a lot of flack as of late. However, sometimes you want fried rice. Sometimes you crave egg foo young floating in "brown sauce." For these times, I'd suggest giving New Hong Kong Chinese a try. Hearty helpings, tasty comforting food, a nice staff, and quick take out times make it my new Chinese go to place in the near western burbs.

Used to be good. Last two orders took forever. Food was cold and spilled into the delivery bag. Delivered 45 min after expected time. Unacceptable.

Our regular place Moy Goy was closed for vacation, we had a hankering for Chinese and tried this for take out. And reading the menu got us all excited because they serve Thai as well; I was thinking of trying their Green Curry next time. But first let's see how they do on their specialty--Chinese. We ordered Szechwan Shrimp listed in the menu with a red pepper icon as very spicy. It was very disappointing, not spicy at all and the featured vegetable in the dish was chopped celery---blah! We also ordered the Orange Chicken, which one reviewer here described as crunchy, probably 'in-restaurant', ours was soggy, but the shrimp were large and the dark orange sauce was very tasty. Our favorites are always egg rolls and Cantonese fried shrimp. Nope, they totally failed on the appetizers. Egg rolls wer every small, about an inch in diameter and tripled wrapped in that doughy stuff. After breaking it in half and seeing all the dough, I took one bite, removed it from my mouth and threw it away. The shrimp was pretty much the same story, a lot of batter over very small shrimp and didn't taste fresh at all. I didn't finish a whole shrimp either. And also, one thing we always have with Moy Goy is left overs for the next day, no matter how hungry we are, that wasn't the case here. I guess we'll just have to wait til our girlfriend at Moy Goy gets back from vacation. I guess when you have 100 or more items on the menu its hard to perfect each dish.

In Hong Kong, the good residents of that far eastern city believe that if a restaurant looks good, they spend more time worrying about the decor than the food so it can't be all that good. Based on that expectation, you would think this place would serve some of the tastiest chinese food anywhere. Interior of the place is kind of dark and dingy. Almost no decor to speak of and booths and tables are pretty banged up with duct tape used liberally on the upholstry. The most unusual feature was this glossy, greasy black circle on the surface of the swinging door leading to the kitchen. This place is definitely "take out" territory. When my companions and I told the lady behind the register we wanted to "eat in", we had to wait a couple of minutes for the shock to wear off and have people set up a table. We ordered the Orange Chicken, Mandarin Chicken, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Egg Rolls and Rice. Portions were large. Orange chicken was nicely done and crunchy, covered with a dark sweet sauce. The mandarin chicken likewise was good, but I thought it lacked heat and the chicken was a bit dry and chewy. Shrimp in lobster sauce received three thumbs up. Egg roll was small and crisply cooked, I thought the white rice that came with the meal was dry. Service was a bit slow but not obnoxiously so. Place was very quiet except for the constant phone calls and picking up associated with the take out business. They do not serve beer or wine but there is a 7 Eleven in the same strip mall so you can BYOB. Bill for three was $27. Food is fine, just don't expect to be "wowed" by the ambiance.

I work in the area and go there for lunch quite a bit. The food is always fresh and good. Newly remodeled and a great place to eat. I recommend the sweet and sour shrimp and the broccoli and chicken lunch special.

We received a menu in the mail and decided to try it out. We ordered crab rangoon as an appetizer and sweet and sour shrimp, pad thai and vegetable lo mein as main dishes. Nothing had any flavor at all except for the pad thai, which had some flavor, just not anything like pad thai! The vegetable lo mein looked and tasted like it was made days ago. Mushy and almost non existent vegetables. The only thing good was the service but that won't make me try it again. Throwing out the menu.

When I moved to Brookfield, I had a very hard time finding Chinese food that I loved and then a menu appeared in my mailbox. Low and behold a romance bloomed between New Hong Kong and me. The egg rolls are awesome. Their Jalapeno Beef is EXCELLENT. Their delivery people are friendly and prompt. The lady who answers the phone knows me already and we actually have a conversation. Best Chinese in Brookfield, Illinois hands down.

I tried this place for the first time tonight. I thought the food was decent. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken and thought it was a little bland. The egg rolls were standard fare. They delivered, and came faster than expected, the price was fair and the portions were very large. We ordered a large of each as we were told that it was good for 2 people, and it serves at least 3. We are still searching for a good Chinese food restart in the area.

I work in the area and try to frequent NHK dining area at least once a week with co-workers. Sandi, the owner /server always remembers what I ordered the last time I came in. The Thai food is fantastic and i always have leftovers to bring home and eat later on.

New Hong Kong is our favorite for Chinese and Thai. We always get the crab Rangoon & beef with green beans. Yum. Penang Curry is delicious as is the Basil Fried Rice. Drunken noodles - yummy yum, yum. Actually, during the past 7 years we have been eating at New Hong Kong, we have tried almost everything and have never been disappointed.

the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of one is because as bad as the food was, it didn't actually kill me or anything. so that's one good thing. Places like New Hong Kong are exactly whyI'm always a little leary of Chinese places that also serve Thai and sushi, or Thai places that serve Chinese, etc. my pad thai somehow tasted like Chinese food. And the thai spring roll tasted exactly like the egg roll. and everything was dripping in grease. I won't be getting food from here again.

I usually never write such negative reviews, but I had high hopes for this place, and ended up very disappointed. My boyfriend and I ordered from here and were expecting a good Asian cuisine. Nope, all their food was bland and tasteless. I ordered the Chicken Rice soup, and it was just that: chicken and rice in hot water. It was so watered down and tasteless that I couldn't have any more than just a couple pieces of chicken -- I wanted to like it, I really did, but there was no hope for it. We shared an order of six crab rangoons and they were terrible. They were too sweet on the inside, and the outer pastry was too soft, not crunchy and delicious like other finer places. It was like they added a ton of sugar inside to try to sweeten it, which crab rangoons don't really need if done right... He got Beef & Broccoli combination plate and he said it wasn't very good. The fried rice did not taste fresh, and the beef was overly salty and there was too much sauce. The portion sizes were not enough for the amount paid (around 8 dollars). It also took a long time to be delivered considering the quality of the food we regrettably paid for. We won't be ordering from here again.

Love it I have been going there for years. It is very basic but very good. We are no longer in the area but when visiting its one of our stops.

In 14 years of coming here, I've never been let down once. If nothing else, try the BBQ pork fried rice and egg rolls.

Ordered from here a few days ago because it's the grandparents favorite chinese place. I have to say, I was quite impressed. We had the broccoli and beef and it rocked. The beef was beef, not chewy fatty stuff. And we had the shrimp kow, which was great. The shrimp was perfect and not fishy at all. The egg rolls were decent, a little small, but good filling. This is now my go-to chinese place whenever I'm in the area.

I usually base my review of Chinese restaurants by the quality of the Singapore noodles. The flavor is great but I feel it needs a little more heat. Of all the places in the area (La Grange Park) I enjoy this place the most. The egg foo young is also tasty with solid texture. I am not a big fan of the egg rolls because they seem more like the manufactured kind, not hand made. I will add more to this review the next time I order to form an opinion upon the rest of the menu.

We only really go here because they have really good chicken wings, I don't think we would go if they weren't that good. All the other stuff we order is pretty average. On the bright side, the people there are pretty nice.

They are delicious! Crab Rangoons and Beef and Broccoli are my go-to dishes and they're really good! Good prices and good size portions too!

This is by far my favorite Chinese food spot! The food is absolutely great and I've never been disappointed. Last year it changed owners and I thought it was going to go downhill. However, things actually changed for the better. Now they also serve Thai food, are open 7 days a week, and even deliver! If you eat in you can get a dinner special which includes an egg-roll (best on this side of town) soup, fried/or white rice and your main entree all for a mere 7$ish. This alone is a great deal, but to make things even more worthwhile I generally have enough leftovers to eat again for lunch the next day. So, 7$ for two meals that both leave me happy and full is a deal I can't beat! The decor is not necessarily stylish, but I like that they are always semi-empty and the service is great. It's a nice atmosphere to sit down, relax have a nice conversation without being overwhelmed by atmospheric noise. They have a lot of carry out business and it's great for individuals or families. The extensive menu has something for everyone and I definitely recommend eating there or grabbing it to go! Normally I would give a place like this four stars, but the food is just that good/authentic that this place gets 5 stars all the way!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
